A trooper with the Utah Highway Patrol and two others were injured after a car drifted onto the interstate shoulder and struck a patrol cruiser.
The crash happened Tuesday morning on eastbound I-215 near 900 West.
Sgt. Cameron Roden said the trooper was conducting a traffic stop on the side of the road. He was parked behind other vehicle and was writing a citation in his car.
Officials said another vehicle drifted off the roadway and into the right shoulder where the trooper and other driver were stopped.
The third vehicle hit the back of the trooper’s cruiser, causing significant back-end damage. The force of the collision pushed the patrol car into the back of the car that had been pulled over.
The driver of each vehicle sustained minor injuries. The nature of those injuries was not released.
Roden said officers from the Murray Police Department took the lead in investigating the crash. It was unclear if any charges were expected to be filed.
