GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The City of Grand Island is looking for a new public works director, and there could soon be a salary increase for that position.

The Grand Island City Council will consider approving a salary ordinance to amend the salary range of the non-union public works director role.

Following the retirement of John Collins at the end of May, administration is starting the search for his replacement. Assistant Public Works Director, Keith Kurz, is currently serving as the interim Public Works Director.

An initial step in the process was to conduct a wage survey. Based on those results, administration is proposing a salary change from $50.69 - $76.50 to $62.83 - $90.97 hourly or $105,443 -$159,123 to $130,686 - $189,217 annually.

According to a council memo, if this gets approved, administration would not request an additional amendment with the 2022-2023 fiscal budget.

The council will take this up during its meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m.
