As soon as the weather permits, I launch my kayak into Maine waters.

I am blessed to have a grandfather who lives on the coast in Yarmouth where I can lug the vessel down to the water and dive right into Casco Bay but there is nothing more calming than a lovely little river run.

When I first got my kayak, I was completely clueless about where to launch it, where I was allowed to go, and how to find the right spots. I would drive by bodies of water and want to know how the heck I get in there!

There’s public access to the Presumpscot River in Westbrook but it’s always been just a steep incline down to the water and getting up and down the incline and in and out of your vessel is just plain sketchy. It’s hard enough to wobble in and out of a kayak and this launch just made it even more difficult.

I’m all about the flat boat decks where you walk down, throw your boat in the water, and scramble into it utilizing your balance but this brand new launch is unlike any I’ve ever seen before.

It’s specifically made for kayakers!!

I audibly gasped when I walked down and saw the end of the dock just waiting for me to safely put my kayak in and launch when I was ready. The divots are perfect for your paddle; I launched with ease and when I returned, I paddled myself right up to the entrance, threw my paddle into the divots, and pulled myself up. It was effortless!

I was happy to glide down the river at sunset and take in all the sounds, smells, and sights of Maine's nature and I loved and appreciated how easy and nice the launch and return were. It really is the simple things in life!
