The mother of two girls killed in a fire three days before Christmas 2020 in Providence is now being charged with manslaughter.
Court records show a grand jury indicted Ingrid Sandoval, 28, on two felony manslaughter charges June 15. She appeared in Providence Superior Court Tuesday.
NBC 10 previously reported that authorities said the mother left her daughters at home while she walked to the store, shortly before the fire started at their home on Lucy Street on December 22, 2020.
Sandoval's 7-year-old daughter Ashley Sandoval died shortly after the fire while her second daughter, 2-year-old Allison Sandoval, died days later at the hospital.
NBC 10 also reported at the time that other people were in the multi-family home at the time of the fire and escaped unharmed, but it was unclear if they knew the girls were in the house.
Three months after the fire, DCYF determined that neglect had played a role in the girls' deaths.
Investigators had ruled out arson as a cause of the fire.
Ingrid Sandoval was being held on $30,000 surety bail following her court appearance Tuesday.
