Video captures man burning pride flag in Lansing
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Police are investigating after a pride flag was torched early Tuesday morning.
The incident happened on East Michigan Avenue near South Mifflin Avenue, where video captured a man dousing a pride flag in a flammable substance, then lighting it with a lighter. Witnesses told police they saw a man wearing all black run from the scene.
Lansing Police Department (LPD) Chief Ellery Sosebee said they’re seeking a fitting prosecution for the parties responsible.
“The Lansing Police Department strives for every citizen to feel safe in the city of Lansing,” Sosebee said. “Our goal is to assure the City of Lansing is a safe place to live work and visit for everyone, including the LGBTQ+ community. The Lansing Police Department will not tolerate any act of hate and intimidation and will seek the appropriate prosecution for any of these crimes.”
Police are currently investigating whether this incident is related to a series of pride flag disappearances in the area.
