Celtic have lost transfer race for German midfielder

Celtic have made a solid start to the summer transfer window. The Hoops have already signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham Hotspur, after his exceptional loan spell, in a deal that could rise up to £10 million with add-ons. On the other hand, a £3.75 million move for Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus is believed to be on the verge of completion as well, while Benjamin Siegrist has joined on a free transfer.

The move for Jota has dragged on longer than anybody would have expected and as a result, there are some concerns now amongst fans about it going through. All the noise in the media has suggested though that it is a matter of when and not if.

There is one player that Celtic have lost out on though, and that is former Bayern Munich attacking midfielder, Christopher Scott.

Celtic had been heavily linked with a move for Scott in recent times but the German youth international has joined Royal Antwerp. The Belgian side confirmed the news on their official Twitter.

Scott was one of the most highly-rated players in all of Germany while coming through the youth ranks and his stats at those levels are exceptional, for both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

He was even compared to Kai Havertz at one point of time, which is not a huge surprise considering he was also a Bayer Leverkusen youth product.

Ultimately though, Scott was not able to break through at the senior level at Bayern Munich, making only a couple of appearances and has ended up departing the Bundesliga giants this summer.

Him joining Royal Antwerp does come as a bit of a surprise. Other than Celtic, clubs in Germany were also believed to be interested in Scott. But he is expected to get regular playing time at the Belgian club and it could prove to be the right step for his development.
