A 47-year-old Sumner man wanted for home invasion and stealing a vehicle in Isabella County has been arrested in Gratiot County on several additional felony charges.

Joseph Ryan Kadlek, who police said went on a two-day crime spree last week, has been charged by Gratiot County Prosecutor Keith Kushion with one additional count of unlawfully driving away a vehicle, as well as armed robbery, felony firearms, felon in possession of a weapon, felon in possession of ammunition, and  resisting an obstructing a police officer.

He was arraigned in 65th District Court on the stolen vehicle charge Monday and the others Tuesday afternoon, Kushion said.

Kadlek’s first auto theft occurred June 23 at Wilson’s Grocery in Sumner, he said.

“A man went into the store and left his dog and keys in his car,” Kushion said. “The man then noticed his dog at the front door of the store and wondered how it had gotten out. Then he noticed his vehicle was gone.”

After sheriff’s deputies watched surveillance camera footage from the store the suspect was identified as Kadlek, Kushion noted.

The next day around 7 p.m. Kadlek broke into a home in the village of Shepherd where he robbed the homeowner at gunpoint and stole a silver 2009 Buick Encore, according to Shepherd police.

But Kadlek wasn’t finished.

“After the home invasion in Shepherd he drove that vehicle to Fulton Country Corners (a party store on M-57 near Middleton) where he held up the clerk and stole money, beer and cigarettes,” Kushion said.

Kadlek was apprehended by police a short time later and lodged in the Gratiot County Jail.

He’s now not only facing the charges in Gratiot County but likely several more felony charges in Isabella, Kushion said.
