One thought on “Engagement campaign around ‘Hiding in Plain Sight’ documentary promotes awareness of youth mental illness

  1. We are definitely not on the same page:

    Yours, and the popular representation:
—-With the release of a new documentary executive-produced by Ken Burns, public TV stations across the country are working with WETA in Washington, D.C., on engagement campaigns to address the stigma around youth mental illness.

Mine and a most unpopular view:
—-With the release of a new documentary executive-produced by Ken Burns, public TV stations across the country are working with WETA in Washington, D.C., on engagement campaigns to address those taught and teaching a stigma around youth mental illness.

We have encountered them many times in history, accepted them, and eventually rejected them. The most graphic of those examples came under fascism in Germany, Jew/stigma. It invaded the minds and acts of millions there. A longer lasting version was rape/stigma, it held sway here in the US for generations. Shorter lived but deadly was AIDS stigma. The lives lost to it out of ignorance rallied millions in protests.

Then fresh out of the gate came mental illness/stigma, expressed, as was each of the other versions, as a truth.

“Hiding in Plain Sight” is an apt title, for on most occasions, that is indeed where our prejudices hide.
