GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ACC on Tuesday announced a new football scheduling model that will go into effect beginning with the 2023 season.

The Hokies will face Pitt, Virginia and Wake Forest as permanent opponents in a new 3-5-5 format going forward, and will play the other 10 league teams twice during the four-year cycle, once at home and once on the road.

"The future scheduling model creates several enhancements for ACC football, which will positively impact our student-athletes, our fans and our league," Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said. "We are grateful for Commissioner Jim Phillips and his leadership. Today's announcement better positions our league for the future and the anticipated expansion of the College Football Playoff."

The new schedule will eliminate the Atlantic and Coastal divisions, with all 14 schools competing in one division beginning in 2023. The top two teams based on conference winning percentage will compete in the Subway ACC Football Championship Game on the first Saturday in December at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
