A hospitality brand based in Witchita, Kan. has broken ground on a new 126-room, long- and short-term hotel concept for Huntsville.

WaterWalk is scheduled to open a location at 1550 Perimeter Pkwy. N.W., at the intersection of Research Park Blvd. S.W. and University Drive, in the fall of 2023, according to the company.

A flexible accommodations brand, Waterwalk offers long-term Live units, which are unfurnished and can be customized, and Stay units, for short-term stays. The company’s concept caters in part to evolving market trends, such as “untethered workers” without home ownership or family obligations.

WaterWalk CEO Mimi Oliver observed that, last year, Huntsville saw 3.7 million visitors.

“As a home base for many major industries, Huntsville allows us to help fill the growing demand for flexible lodging,” Oliver said. “It is clear that how and where we work is rapidly changing, and we are excited to be at the forefront of helping individuals take advantage of that growth.

There are currently eight WaterWalk properties, including Wichita, Denver, Dallas, San Antonio, Overland Park, Raleigh, Charlotte and Minneapolis. There are also four other properties currently under construction, in Phoenix, Boise, Jacksonville and Tucson, as well as more than 20 properties in the development pipeline.
