Looking around Southwest Oklahoma, there is no shortage of events and activities planned for our collective Independence Day celebrations. Lawton has Freedom Fest, Comanche is hosting fireworks, Marlow's 131st Annual Old Fashioned 4th, and now Fletcher is getting in the game with their first annual birthday bash.

All of the small-town fun gets started early with a 7:30AM breakfast at the community center and a day jam-packed full of fun continues at the fairgrounds. The shining star attraction has to be the amateur BBQ cook-off event... If you live in Lawton, you know how rare this type of event is since our city is run by mouth-breathing idiots that require licensing and professional kitchens for cook-off activities.

The BBQ cook-off winner earns a $500 cash prize.

Fletcher has booked out a couple of delicious food trucks to offer viddles to the people throughout the day. There will be a 50/50 Bingo at noon. A live auction at 2PM, tons of family fun in the park, and of course a fireworks display after dark.

Fletcher's 1st Annual Birthday Fest isn't just another empty city even though, the proceeds they raise throughout the day will benefit the Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department, something that's necessary for every underfunded rural community in dry Southwest Oklahoma.

If you think you know you're way around a brisket or ribs, or you make the most delicious smoked bologna in the state, you'll need to sign up either on July 1st between 5-7PM at the local Legion Hut... 106 North Shelby there in Fletcher, or you can simply sign up at the fairgrounds park between 8-9AM July 2nd.

If you're new to the area or would just like to really experience how awesome and wholesome Southwest Oklahoma really is, you might just make plans to make this twenty-minute drive on Saturday to check it out.
