Helicopter pilot dies in Nolan County crash Sunday

NOLAN COUNTY — The pilot of a crop dusting helicopter died in a crash here Sunday after the aircraft collided with power lines, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed. 

The crash was at 9:37 a.m., according to DPS, about 4.1 miles north of Blackwell and three-quarters of a mile west of State Highway 70.

According to the FAA, a Robinson R44 helicopter crashed on a ranch while the pilot was performing crop-dusting. The pilot was the only person on board.

The National Transportation Safety Board will lead an investigation with the FAA, the agency said. 

Neither agency identifies people involved in aircraft crashes, according to the FAA.

According to online FAA records, the aircraft is registered to Matthew Ashcraft of Abbott, which is north of Waco.
