By Karla James Jun 28, 2022 | 1:04 PM

A 40 year old woman called Lincoln Police on Monday to report she had fallen victim to an internet impersonation scam.

The woman told officers she had been talking to a man on Instagram since February who identified himself as actor Henry Cavill. They continued to chat and at one point he told her he had sent her a briefcase containing $10 million and diamonds but it was held up in customs.

Throughout their conversation, he convinced the victim to give him her bank account numbers so bitcoin could be purchased to pay the federal agent to release the briefcase. The woman is out $40,000.

LPD reminds everyone to be especially cautious and suspicious of anyone asking for a bank account number. If there any doubt, contact your financial institution who can assist in verifying the validity of the request.
