More Information on Storm Lake Animal Neglect Case ; Multiple Individuals Charged

Three people have been charged after an animal cruelty complaint led to the removal of several cats and dogs from a Storm Lake residence.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, a search warrant was executed at 1014 North Michigan Street at approximately 10am last Friday. Multiple animals were located in the home, and many of them appeared to be in poor condition. Officers captured and removed 50 cats and two dogs from the home. The animals were transported to Lake Animal Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Some of them had to be euthanized due to illness.

At around 8am today (Tues) 61-year-old Juana Munoz, 31-year-old Veronica Lopez Munoz, and 25-year-old Mayra Lopez Munoz were arrested. They were each charged with two counts of Animal Neglect Causing Injury or Death, an aggravated misdemeanor…and one count of Animal Neglect Without Serious Injury, a simple misdemeanor. They were each booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on 43-hundred dollar bonds.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the Storm Lake Fire Department and Lake Animal Hospital.
