Police confirm to Iowa's News Now there was a gas leak at or near a home where a 13-year-old girl was found dead Monday morning in Marengo.
Marengo Police Chief Ben Gray says there was some sort of gas leak but there was no natural gas leak in the home itself. He said they are not releasing any more information at this time.
The girl was found unresponsive at a home in the 1000 block of Cherry Avenue around 6:40 on Monday morning. First responders tried to save her life, but she died later at the hospital.
Authorities do not suspect foul play and are not releasing a cause of death until an autopsy is performed at the State of Iowa Medical Examiner's Office.
Chief Gray says three others went to the hospital for treatment of mild symptoms due to the gas leak.
