Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run crash in East San Jose

SAN JOSE -- A hit-and-run driver killed a pedestrian in East San Jose early Tuesday morning.

San Jose police said officers responded to the area of South Jackson and Kammerer Avenues at about 4:46 a.m. Tuesday and found a woman who had been hit by a car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, a black sedan - possibly a 2018-2022 Honda Accord - was heading south on South Jackson Ave. when it hit the woman that was crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk.

The driver of the sedan fled and remained unidentified. The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after notifying her family members.

South Jackson Avenue was closed between Kammerer Avenue and San Antonio Street while police conducted the investigation.

Police said it was the city's 33rd fatal collision and the 35th traffic death of 2022. It was also the 21st pedestrian fatality.
