The Flandreau Softball Association hosted the Interlakes Youth Softball Association 8u League Fastpitch softball tournament this past weekend at the Flandreau City Park. The tournament included 2 teams from Flandreau and 1 team from Colman-Egan.
Single elimination tournament play kicked off at 9am with cloudy and breezy weather. Colman-Egan Hawks and Flandreau Purple both took the field at 10am. Flandreau Purple took on the Rage out of Madison and came out on top to advance. Unfortunately, the Hawks were not as lucky and fell to Howard to be eliminated from the tournament. Flandreau Gold was next up on the north diamond playing Chester. They continued the winning streak for Flandreau to move on to the next round.
The rest of the games were all moved to the west field to play out the tournament. Flandreau Purple was first up at 1pm to play Lady Raiders. Purple put up a good fight but fell short to end their season. Flandreau Gold and Howard played a hard game with Gold pulling out on top to head to the championship. That’s were the luck ended for Gold with a 2nd place finish to the Lady Raiders that ended their season.
All the girls participating this year made lots of improvements, said Flandreau Fastpitch Softball Association board member Brittany Bennett. Bennett went on to say, “We as a board just feel like the implementations, we made this year with starting out a softball camp early in season helped all the girls get used to playing and developing and advancing their skills a little faster than in past years.”
Bennett and board members created the Flandreau Fastpitch Softball Association last year in hopes to give Flandreau girls the same opportunity at playing softball that you would receive in a larger city. See page 10 for more pictures.
