This year's Fourth of July will mark the 32nd annual Community Spirit Fireworks Show in the Lewis-Clark Valley. This will also be the first time since before the pandemic that the "pre-show" will be back in action at Adam's Field, at Clarkston High School.
"The fireworks are just the first visible, and only visible sign of our patriotism, that brings the community together, and that's what we want. We want that to continue," said John Sullivan
Sullivan is the president of Community Spirit the non-profit organization that is behind the fireworks show. He has been a vital piece of having a fireworks show in the area since the inception of Community Spirit 32 years ago. We spoke to him about why the Fourth of July celebration, and the fireworks show specifically, are so important to him.
"I've got six kids and when we were, they were growing up, and when I grew up in the Valley I also watched the fireworks so I wanted to continue those and make every effort," Sullivan said.
In 2020 and 2021, the fireworks themselves were still lit off for the community, but only to be watched while folks stayed socially distant due to COVID. We asked him what people can expect from this year's show since it will be running at pre-pandemic levels.
"This year we are inviting the public back, so the public can come in, we've got a live band, food vendors, we've got fun... we've got prizes... we've got giveaways... we've got all kinds of things going on there. so we want to invite every family back."
The schedule for the event is the gates will open at Adam's field at 6:00 p.m., the live music will begin at 8:00 p.m., and then the show itself will commence at 10:00 p.m.
