Lincoln woman lost $40,000 to crook posing as Henry Cavill online, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 40-year-old Lincoln woman was scammed out of $40,000 by someone pretending to be Henry Cavill, police say.

The woman told police that she was contacted on Instagram in February by someone who identified himself as the actor known for playing Superman.

At one point, he told her that he had sent her a briefcase containing $10 million and some diamonds but that the briefcase was being held up by U.S. Customs.

Police said the con man convinced the woman to provide her bank account numbers so he could buy bitcoin to pay the agent who had confiscated the briefcase.

The Lincoln Police Department reminds people to be cautious of sharing their financial information.
