The Cortlandville town board awarded the bid for phase two of the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex at a special meeting on Monday.
The town board accepted the total bid of $3,152,189 from Smith Site Development, a contracting company based in Binghamton.
“We’re super excited about phase two,” said John McNerney, who is part of Cortlandville’s parks and recreation department.
The base cost from the Binghamton contracting company’s bid is $2,215,589, according to town supervisor Tom Williams.
Williams noted the town will also go with three alternate bids from Smith Site Development, which includes field lighting ($788,000), a spare conduit ($59,500) and a batting tunnel ($89,100).
Phase two of Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex as a whole will include two turf fields, dugouts, batting cages, a batting tunnel, additional parking and a portable mound to “accommodate baseball and softball play,” McNerney said.
Five different base distances will be part of the project, which will allow little league, adult softball, girls softball and baseball games to all be played on the fields. McNerney noted that youth soccer and youth lacrosse could potentially be played on the fields as well.
Since the bid was awarded Monday, McNerney noted the groundbreaking for phase two remains to be seen, but could start in the near future.
“The goal is to have this part of the facility up and running by next spring,” he added.
