Two teenagers who were inside of a vehicle that flipped upside down and took down a utility pole in Raymond were hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says a homeowner reported a vehicle upside down in a ditch and a utility pole that had been snapped off on Webbs Mills Road around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the driver, 18-year-old Lucas Gaudin of Raymond, lost control of the vehicle and went airborne before striking the pole. Gaudin was able to exit the vehicle after it landed on its roof.

His passenger, a 16-year-old juvenile, was trapped inside but was removed by first responders.

Both were taken to Maine Medical Center.

Speed is considered the primary factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.

The road was closed for several hours while Central Maine Power crews repaired the pole and wires.
