Tim Elko saw his Ole Miss career end the best way it could on Sunday — with a College World Series title. But the Rebels infielder didn’t have time to think about it when he met the media after the game.

Ole Miss knocked off Oklahoma in the best-of-three series to bring home the title, which is amazing considering the Rebels were the last team in the field. Elko hit .327 with five home runs and 14 RBI to help Ole Miss through the impressive tournament run.

In his postgame press conference following the victory, Elko said he was thinking more about his teammates than himself following the end of his college career.

“It hasn’t really quite sunk in yet that this was my last game in an Ole Miss baseball uniform and playing with this team and the guys that I played with for so many years,” Elko said. “But right now, I’m just proud to be a national champion and be a part of a team that did some amazing things this year. That’s what I’m proud of right now.”

It’s a common tale: A veteran college star sticking around campus for one more season with national championship aspirations. For Ole Miss star Tim Elko – that dream became reality Sunday.

“I mean, it’s hard to put into words,” Elko said following the Rebels’ national championship victory over Oklahoma in the College World Series Final. “No, really, me and Kev and people that maybe could have gone, we came back one more year to play with the guys sitting up here with me and that we’re on the field today.

“We came back to play one more time as a team and go for the shot to win a national championship, and obviously we did that. It feels amazing.”

In the Rebels’ 10-3 victory over the Sooners on Saturday, Elko belted a home run, going 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI’s. He couldn’t find that same magic at the plate in Game 2, going 0-4 and being struck out twice.
