WARNER ROBINS, Ga. (WGXA) -- A violent weekend in Warner Robins claimed two lives, and one woman even watched as the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old unfolded on Thomas Boulevard.
"I was in the house and I heard a couple of popping noices and then I thought it was like a firework."
That's the voice of a neighbor who didn't want her face shown due to safety reasons, but she says she quickly noticed it wasn't fireworks she was hearing. Instead, it was a 17-year-old being shot.
I look over and the car was parked here at the four-way, and he was kind of reversing up and he was shooting at him. So he stops the car after he gets in reverse, he looks over at me for about five seconds and then looks back at the gentleman and fires about six more shots.
The victim, identified as 17-year-old Jontel Williams, later died.
"Guns are an issue, again we're seeing a gun problem and now it's in my neighborhood."
Another neighbor who also didn't want to be shown, says the idea of relocating even crosses his mind due to gun violence.
"Sometimes it makes me want to move out of town but the thing about it, if I go somewhere else, chances are it's going to be there also."
He adds that people need to think before they act.
"You think that you want to meet the prison lifestyle. You do not want to."
In another deadly shooting at the 7-Star Food Mart on North Davis Dr., 31-year-old Jamal Colson died after being shot. The suspect, 22-year-old Surayah Johnson, is in custody for that shooting.
Warner Robins Police Chief John Wagner says he sees people flying off the handle too quickly.
It's not going zero to 100, it's called going zero to guns.
Chief Wagner says although the Warner Robins Police Department is 30 officers short, they're using everything they have.
"But sadly, as you're starting to see where agencies are really straining to get more people, we do our best with what we have," he says.
