A Yukon man could spend the rest of his life in state prison for allegedly trying to stab a transient to death.
Norman William Jansen Jr., 64, was charged June 17 in Canadian County District Court with assault and battery by means or force likely to produce death.
The charge stems from a stabbing that occurred at 1:44 p.m. June 9 in the 900 block of Cedar Avenue.
Yukon Police responded to the scene where Jansen allegedly had stabbed his roommate several times in the chest, head and face.
Assistant District Attorney John Salmon alleges Jansen “without justifiable or excusable cause” committed an assault by using a knife held in his hand “to stab and slash” the male victim “multiple times with unlawful and felonious intent then and there to do bodily harm” to the victim “by means or with force likely to produce death.”
Jansen later admitted to stabbing the victim during a physical altercation, according to a Yukon Police Department statement.
A disagreement between the defendant and alleged victim reportedly led to an argument and then the altercation.
The defendant was booked at 11:17 p.m. June 9 at the Canadian County Jail in El Reno.
The alleged victim was taken to OU Medical Center in stable condition for treatment of “multiple cuts and stab wounds.”
A preliminary hearing conference for Jansen is set 9 a.m. July 8 before Canadian County Special Judge Charles Gass.
Assault and battery by means or force likely to produce death is a felony crime punishable by up to life in prison, upon conviction.
