TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -- A Toombs County man with outstanding warrants was shot during a standoff with deputies.
The Toombs County Sheriff's Office says the standoff happened early Tuesday morning.
Deputies were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of Rodney Stanley Rd. in Lyons around 1:37 a.m. to apprehend Rabul Valdez, Jr. on multiple warrants.
When deputies located Valdez, they say he threatened them with a handgun. A deputy fired their service weapon, hitting Valdez once.
Valdez then barricaded himself in the home for about four and a half hours. Deputies talked Valdez into surrendering, and he was transported to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.
The Toombs County Sheriff's Office has also asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to independently investigate this officer-involved shooting.
