Captain Shreve wide receiver Marquez Stevenson commits to Texas Tech in two sports

Captain Shreve wide receiver Marquez “Macho” Stevenson, the fastest 400-meter runner in Louisiana, has committed to Texas Tech football and track.

The senior announced his decision Monday on Twitter after an official visit in Lubbock. 

“First, I want to thank God for leading the way and I’m extremely blessed and excited to be announcing my dual-sport commitment to @TexasTech FB @TexasTechTF,” Stevens wrote.

The Red Raiders are recruiting him as a cornerback.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Stevenson held football offers from Mississippi State,  Indiana and Grambling among others. The three-star recruit, according to 247Sports Composite, is the No. 18 player in Louisiana. 

"During the visit I got to see how Lubbock has a big atmosphere and it wasn't just like a small town," Stevenson told RedRaiderSports. "The coaches made it feel like home. It was more than just football, they care about us off the field and how they can help us get to the next level while getting a good education."

The Shreveport Times All-City track athlete had the city’s fastest times in the 100 (10.59), 200 (21.51) and 400 (47.18) and won state in the 400. 

Captain Shreve track coach Kendrick Law finds plenty to like about Stevenson.

"Marquez is an all-around great person," he said. "He's a great athlete with excellent character and promising work ethic."
