WEST MIFFLIN, PA – When a 13-year-old girl went missing, mom Evelyn Liddell told police the child was safe with her Las Vegas, after her father reported her missing. It turns out, she made the whole thing up. Luckily, after an extensive search operation after a missing child investigation was launched the girl was found safely, but mom was arrested for lying to police
On Thursday, at approximately 11:45 p.m., West Mifflin Police requested the investigative assistance of the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit for a 13-year-old female that was reported missing from her West Mifflin residence by her biological father and legal guardian.
“Wednesday, shortly after initiating the investigation, county detectives put out a Missing and Endangered Person Advisory (MEPA) alert through the Pennsylvania State Police for the missing child and requested the assistance of the Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group,” police said. “The Frick Park area of the City of Pittsburgh was searched by county detectives, Pittsburgh Police, and the Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group with negative results.”
Police said Evelyn Liddell, the biological mother of the missing 13-year-old, told investigators that her daughter was safe with her in Las Vega, but that claim was unable to be verified with the assistance of Las Vegas Police Department and the search continued.
“Saturday, at approximately 10:40 a.m., county detectives and Pittsburgh police officers located the missing 13-year-old female with her mother, Evelyn Liddell, in the 7100 block of Race Street in the Homewood neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh,” police said.
Liddell was charged with false reports to law enforcement, interference with custody of children, concealment of whereabouts of a child, and obstruction charges. The missing child was returned to her father. Liddell will be transported to the Allegheny County Jail to await arraignment.
