Nick McWilliams reporting – Following two water main breaks in the same week, New Philadelphia officials updated residents on what happened.

The break initially occurred next to Starbucks, Verizon, and Chipotle along Bluebell Drive over the weekend.

Service Director Ron McAbier told council Monday night that the same pipe had a blowout on Monday morning, and has been patched.

“When they got in, they had to spool a piece in, which means they have to cut a piece out. It’s not just a clamp. You have to put a piece in. And the piece was sitting good, but 12 feet up the pipe, they had to spool another piece in.”

McAbier expressed confidence in the repair work, and the city service department will keep a close eye on the area.

Residents were affected throughout the city, due to the line being one of the largest water delivery systems in New Phila.
