Recap for June 25th doubleheader against the Hastings Sodbusters 2-1 and 10-9 respectively

Fremont, NE- The Moo get their 15th and 16th wins of the season in a series sweep against the Hastings Sodbusters 2-1 and 10-9, respectively. Fremont now moves to 16-12 on the season a game and a half out of 1st place in 3rd. Hastings now moves to 14-12 on the season two and a half games out of 1st in 4th place.
In Game 1, it was a pitcher’s duel between Moo SP Marco Ibarra and Sodbusters SP JT Cafferty. Ibarra went 6 2/3 innings allowing one run on six hits getting the win while Cafferty was charged with the loss going six innings allowing two runs on six hits. Fremont would get their only runs of the game in the 2nd when Zech Samayoa hit a 2-run shot that scored himself and Matt Spear. Hastings would get theirs in the 1st inning on the first pitch of the game via a solo HR.
In Game 2, it was more so of an offensive slugfest as the Moo got the scoring started in the 1st off an Austin Baskin double that scored Zane Skansi on his return from getting cleated last Monday in Hastings. Hastings would come roaring back in the next two innings first on a three-run HR by Dallan Quigley who was the beer batter for Game 2. Then, a single and error on the same play allowed two to score and a sac-fly allowed one more to make it 6-2. Samayoa was the lone bright spot for the Moo going 1-3 but getting the two crucial RBIs on his HR.
Fremont would come back with three of their own in the 4th started by an error on the Sodbusters SS that scored Tyler Harrington, then another Baskin single scored Skansi and Derian Morphew. Hastings would score once in the 5th then two in the 6th to make it 9-5 before the Moo would score five unanswered runs for the eventual final score of 10-9. Fremont’s offense would be jumpstarted by a Skansi solo HR then a Jared Snyder single scored Kanin Dodge before a two-run single by Harrington scored Baskin and Jason Axelberg to tie it up at 9. The Moo would walk it off in the 7th on a bases-loaded single by Axelberg that scored Skansi.
Ultimately, Ben Higdon got the win in Game 2 going one inning allowing no runs or hits while Danny Garcia was charged with the loss for Hastings going one inning allowing one run on 4 hits. Skansi went 3-4 with 5 runs, Dodge went 4-5 with 1 run, Baskin went 3-4 with 3 RBIs and 1 run, and Axelberg went 3-3 including his walk-off to seal the win for the Moo.
The Moo will play the Spearfish Sasquatch at home for the second time this season tomorrow through Thursday before a 3-game series against the Nebraska Prospects Friday-Sunday this weekend.
