Bemus Point Boat Days Set for This Weekend
A Boat Parade will take place at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 14. Boat entry is free and will have a pirate theme. Bemus Point stores and restaurants also will have activities or specials involving the pirate theme. Kids activities will take place at the Musky Mall from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Live music is also scheduled at various venues.

New Jersey Man Arrested in Attack on Salman Rushdie at Chautauqua Institution
A New Jersey man has been arrested in the attack on author Salman Rushdie at Chautauqua Institution. New York State Police say 24-year old Hadi Matar of Fairview, New Jersey was arrested after they say he ran onto the Amphitheater Stage and attacked Rushdie as well as guest speaker 73-year old Henry Reese. Rushdie suffered an apparent stab wound to the neck and was transported by helicopter to an Erie, Pennsylvania hospital.

23rd Annual ‘Cents For St. Susan’s’ Campaign Raises Over $26,000
The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities announced the 23rd Annual “Cents For St. Susan’s” campaign has raised $26,693. BPU Communications Coordinator Becky Robbins said around 50 canisters were put out at local businesses as part of the donation drive, “Those brought in about $2,000, which was very, very generous. And we did urge people to collect bottles and cans, redeemable containers. We didn’t do as much in that this year, but still raised $200 for that.”

Early Voting for Special Election, Primary for 23rd Congressional District Begins August 13
Early voting for the special election for the 23rd Congressional District and the Republican Primary for the 23rd District begins Saturday. Chautauqua County Board of Elections Commissioner Brian Abram said everyone who is a registered voter in Chautauqua County is eligible to vote in the special election, “So the door is wide open for everybody to walk in and decide on the special election between Max Della Pia and Joe Sempolinski on who they want to serve out the rest of Tom Reed‘s 23rd Congressional District until the end of the year. The next phase is, every Republican walking in the door will be entitled to two ballots. Because not only will they be able to participate in the special, but there is a primary going on between Nick Langworthy and Carl Paladino.”
