A Galva teen agreed to a plea deal in Henry County Circuit Court Thursday that involved dropping four of the six charges against him.

Gage Huffman,18, pleaded guilty to the remaining  charges of possessing methamphetamine and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number. Each charge came with a five-year prison sentence and a $75 fine.

Once released from prison, Huffman will be required to pay a $500 public defender fee.  The two five-year sentences will be served concurrently.

Assistant Henry County State’s Attorney Katie Reynolds told the court that on April 7, 2022, police received a tip that Huffman was at a residence in Kewanee with others and that he had a gun.

After Huffman left the residence, the Kewanee Police Department obtained a description of the vehicle in which he was a passenger and conducted a traffic stop. A search warrant of the vehicle turned up a Smith & Wesson 9 MM handgun with a defaced serial number and 28 grams of a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
