The Ole Miss Rebels defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in the finals of the 2022 Men's College World Series to win the first ever MCWS title in Ole Miss history this past weekend in Omaha, NE.
The Rebels finished the season with an impressive 41-23 final record along the way to the championship.
Overall the Southeastern Conference was well represented in the Men’s College World Series, as four teams from the SEC (Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss) advanced to Omaha, with Tennessee, who entered the post season ranked No. 1 in college baseball just missing out by being eliminated by Notre Dame in the super regional round.
The SEC has now won four of the last five Men’s College World Series titles (Miss State 2021, Vanderbilt 2019, Florida 2017)
When The Morning Show with John and Hugh asked DawgNation’s Mike Griffith about the SEC dominance in college baseball, Mike pointed out that some coaches feel the SEC has an advantage of playing in warmer climates.
“It’s just more whining and crying from the Big 10” joked Mike when asked by John if northern schools have a legitimate reason to be jealous of the SEC.
Mike also commented that, “it didn’t seem to bother Notre Dame, they beat the number one team in the country in Tennessee.”
The SEC has put all of collegiate athletics on notice that they play more than just football at a championship level.
