Wicomico County Public Schools extends a hearty congratulations to Jason Capobianco, Jen Davis and Laurie Parker for going the extra mile during the month of May.

The winners of the employee recognition program, chosen from a pool of nearly 3,000 full and part-time WCPS employees, were announced on June 23 at the Wicomico County Board of Education's monthly meeting. Three recipients are selected each month for the award, which is bestowed upon WCPS employees who go above and beyond their typical job requirements to aid students and fellow staff and improve the school system.

Capobianco was specifically chosen due to his heroic actions, which saved a student's life.

According to a news release, a student began choking during lunch at James M. Bennett High School, and his body went limp. Capobianco rushed to the student’s side and began performing the Heimlich maneuver. He did this for nearly a minute before the item was dislodged and the student began to breathe.

Capobianco has recently been named as the new principal at Wicomico Middle School, effective July 1. Currently, he serves as the assistant principal at James M. Bennett High School, Davis as the Health Services Coordinator at Central Office, and Parker a data analyst for Human Resources.

Each winner was presented with an Extra Mile Award plaque and certificate by outgoing WCPS Superintendent Donna Hanlin and WCBOE Chairman Gene Malone.
