Burlington man arrested for theft

Burlington, IA-  The Burlington Police Department has announced the arrest of a Burlington man for first-degree theft.

According to a news release, on Sunday, June 26th, the Burlington Police Department was dispatched to the 100 block of South 6th Street for a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a delivery driver from a local pizza restaurant.  The driver said that his money bag had been stolen from him.  Officers were provided with a description of the suspect as well as the vehicle they drove away in.

Deputies from the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office had also responded to the area and located a vehicle matching the description in this incident.   Deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop on this vehicle, which resulted in a vehicle pursuit.

After the pursuit, 22-year-old Taran Deshawn Branton of Burlington (above) was arrested for 1st-degree theft.

Branton was transported to the Des Moines County Correctional Facility and held on bond pending an initial court appearance.

Branton was also charged with multiple counts related to the vehicle pursuit, including eluding, driving while barred, violation of one-way traffic, and speeding.
