With emotions running high following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Oregon Senator Ron Wyden is warning Oregonians that the goal of many Republicans is an all-out ban, which would override Oregon's state laws protecting a woman's right to an abortion.
Wyden was in Eugene Monday and spoke about applying a "full court press," encouraging people to not only vote for pro-choice candidates; but to be involved everywhere in the fight: in education, advocacy, and other places.
He was highly critical of the Supreme Court justices, going so far as to question their motives.
“Those justices clearly had an agenda, and it's clear to me they were going to say what was necessary to promote their agenda,” Sen. Wyden said “There's going to be plenty of debate about what precedent means now, but I think we understand that in the real world it means great respect for the rulings that have taken place previously, and that was pledged. And of course, it wasn't honored.”
Wyden joined Senator Jeff Merkley and 32 other Democratic senators in signing a letter to President Biden imploring him to take bold action on protecting a right to an abortion.
