Shell It Out For South Fork Sea Farmers

South Fork Sea Farmers’ 4th annual “Shell it Out” fundraiser is Sunday, August 7, in Springs. The event, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m., features a silent auction with goods and services donated by local businesses which support the mission of South Fork Sea Farmers. Most notably, three East End artists — Daniel Vernola, Aaron Warkoff and Kurt Giehl — will be creating a series of pieces for the auction. Local oysters will be shucked on-site for guests to enjoy along with lite bites by East Hampton’s Food & Co. The event is being held at the home of Jeff Ragovin and Kurt Giehl on Old Stone Highway. Visit southforkseafarmers.org for more information and to buy tickets.

South Fork Sea Farmers is a not-for-profit organization that works collaboratively with the East Hampton Town Shellfish Hatchery to expand and broaden educational programs across the East End and promote the Town’s oyster gardening project. The mission is simple — educate and raise awareness of the importance of sustainable marine aquaculture to inspire constructive action programs.

South Fork Sea Farmers promotes and encourages public oyster gardening which helps keep waters clean, provides habitat for marine life and improves the overall ecosystem. The hope is that other communities see the benefits of what’s happening across the East End and begin similar efforts in their waters. The event will focus on raising funds for its educational seminars for the public throughout the year.

The East Hampton Shellfish Hatchery raises millions of seed shellfish annually — hard clams, oysters, and bay scallops – for the purpose of restocking public shellfish beds in town waters. The East Hampton Shellfish Hatchery produces large quantities of oyster (Crassostrea virginica), clam (Mercenaria mercenaria), and bay scallop (Argopecten irradians) seed to enhance valuable shellfish stocks.

L’Épicuriste Opens In Bridgehampton

L’Épicuriste has opened its doors on Montauk Highway, in the heart of Bridgehampton. L’Épicuriste is a high-end specialty food store catering to chefs, guests hosts, and everyone in between. Sourced globally but not readily available in the area, the pantry will stock international dried goods and ingredients essential to the refined palates of the area’s visitors.

Curated by Chef Amin Kinana, L’Épicuriste was born out of necessity, as he was unable to find key and quality ingredients to cook to his high standards. To bring his vision to reality, Kinana teamed up with financier-cum-designer Charles de Viel Castel, who is a homeowner in Bridgehampton with a love of home cooking and an eye for gifting and design.

Comprised of five main categories, L’Épicuriste will offer specialty items with a flair from pantry, to curiosités, cadeaux, macaron, and chocolatier. Highlights include baskets from Ghana, a selection of Moroccan spices that hail from Kinana’s birth city, linens from Portugal, knives from Japan, one-of-a-kind objects, and more. L’Épicuriste gift baskets will be both preselected, and available to be custom-made by clients. L’Épicuriste will present an assortment of uniquely flavored macarons, imported directly from France, that will be available to purchase singularly or in beautifully branded boxes. L’Épicuriste Chocolatier will offer an assortment of European-inspired chocolates.

The pantry will also host goods and art from local artisans to take the flavor beyond the kitchen. Visitors can enjoy bouquets from botanical atelier, Missi Flowers and explore the artwork of East End artist Sydney Albertini, on display and available for purchase in-store.

Born and raised in Sweden of Moroccan descent, Chef Amin Kinana has been working in restaurant kitchens since age 15. He honed his skills at two Michelin starred restaurants before moving to Paris and expanding his experience and repertoire. He transitioned to working as a private chef, traveling globally and mastering Asian cuisines and pastry along the way. After visiting the East End, Chef Amin recognized a space for products that are not available in the area.

Financier turned designer Charles de Viel Castel has been a homeowner in Bridgehampton for the past decade and is familiar with the clientele and landscape. With previous investments in fine dining and consumer products, combined with a love of home cooking and an eye for gifting and design, the partnership between Kinana and de Viel Castel was a natural one.

L’Épicuriste is at 2466 Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. The store is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit lepicuriste.com.
