Easthom plays all three rounds at West Virginia Open

Easthom, who recently wrapped up his senior season as a collegiate golfer at West Liberty State University, posted three consecutive scores of 78 at last week’s 89th annual West Virginia Open on the Stonewall Resort’s Palmer Course.

The 2018 Ravenswood High School graduate’s 18-over-par score of 234 put him in a five-way tie for 41st at the Open, which consists of both amateurs and professionals.

Easthom, who won the prestigious West Virginia State Amateur title in 2020, joined Jack Lingren, Noah Mitchell, John Francisco and Craig Berner in the 18th position.

Last month, Easthom was named to the PING/NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region Men’s Golf Team for a fourth consecutive year.

He was one of 108 players to have All-Region honors bestowed upon him by the Golf Coaches Association of America following the NCAA Division II Super Regional Championships.

While at West Liberty, Easthom twice earned the prestigious Mountain East Conference Player of the Year award.

This past season, he tied for third in the MEC Championship Tournament, where the Hilltoppers of West Liberty finished second.

He garnered medal honors in the MEC Spring Classic.

This past season, Easthom was a vital cog in the Hilltoppers earning a berth in the NCAA Division II Super Regional for an eighth straight time.

Christian Brand emerged as the winner of this year’s Open by carding a three-day total of 206, good for 10-under-par.

It marked Brand’s third Open title. He won back-to-back crowns in 2014 and 2015.

Brand, a product of Capital High and Marshall University, has played on the Web.com Tour as a professional but is now heading back to amateur status.

He fought off 12-time Open winner David Bradshaw for the crown.

Brand’s individual scores for the three rounds were 69, 69 and 68, respectively.

Bradshaw posted scores of 69, 69 and 71, respectively, during the action staged Wednesday through Friday.

Thad Obecny II, West Liberty’s head golf coach, placed third at 3-under.

He carded rounds of 68, 73 and 72, respectively.

Nick Fleming and Sam O’Dell tied for fourth by finishing a 1-under.

The top five were the only golfers to finish under par for the tournament.
