Elizabeth Warren pushing feds to use public lands to ensure abortion access
Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren is pushing for President Joe Biden to declare a public health emergency in the wake of the Supreme Court's Roe v Wade decision.
Warren hosted a meet-and-greet at a community center in Randolph, Massachusetts, on Monday night.
Warren is suggesting federal authorities take action to increase access to abortion medication where the procedure has been restricted by state regulations.
The Massachusetts senator is pushing to provide federal resources for individuals seeking abortion care in other states and using federal property and resources to protect people seeking abortion services locally.
"The federal government needs to be exploring what they can do to make federal lands available to help ensure access to abortion," Warren said.
Former vice president Mike Pence has called for a national ban on abortion in all 50 states.
Andrew Beckwith, president of the Massachusetts Family Institute, says he supports a federal ban since abortions remain legal in Massachusetts.
"We have a lot of work to do here in Massachusetts to protect life," Beckwith said. "We've been working for pro-life legislation and combating abortion legislation for decades. We'll certainly continue to do that and we'll take a look at what opportunities this court ruling affords us to further that measure."
