After graduating from Notre Dame, Davis Chatfield had his eyes set on returning to his home course Wannamoisett Country Club for his sixth and final Northeast Amateur where he finished in the top 15.
"It means a ton. Just, the membership puts so much into this and it means a lot to me, my family. The guys love it here. They kind of check it off as one of the best weeks of the summer," said Chatfield.
The former Rhode Island Amateur champion also is focusing on the US Amateur -- a tournament that he has had a tremendous amount of success at in the past, including a top eight finish last year.
"Yeah I've had a lot of success in that tournament in the past, and it's one that I always look forward to. It's always a great end of the summer and hopefully this year I can go a little further," said Chatfield
Chatfield told NBC 10 he plans to wrap up his Amateur career this summer before turning pro in September.
"I decided to stay Am for the summer to just kind of sharpen some things. Felt like I was close to being ready to professional golf, but one more Am series circuit would be good for me, and I think it would be really beneficial to me. Decided to turn pro after the U.S. Am. I think that will be a good cap off to my amateur career, and I'll go to Q-School in September. Hopefully everything goes well there and I'll go off my merry way in the Korn Ferry tour," said Chatfield.
So just four more tournaments to cap off Davis' impressive amateur career as he gets ready to turn pro in the fall.
