Thousands of fireworks cases will be loaded up and shipped across New England this week from Atlas Fireworks at their Jaffrey warehouse. Vice president Matt Shea said demand is steady despite record-high inflation."This is a crazy weekend for us," Shea said. "We haven't seen the retraction of the market, maybe a little bit in retail, but people are still buying."Shea said firework retailers are dealing with high shipping costs, both importing fireworks from China and having to ship them across the region."The shipping is very expensive," Shea said. "We've done the best we can to not pass down the entire cost. It's a 70% increase over last year."Atlas also produces professional firework displays, like ones at stadiums or in Boston's Fourth of July celebration."The cost to ship those products is almost as much as the products themselves," Shea said.Atlas said they are limiting the number of larger fireworks in those displays to cut down on shipping costs.
