Pilot dies in a helicopter crash while helping with Clear Fire outside Anderson

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - Sunday night, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a helicopter crash near milepost 280 of the Parks Highway. According to troopers, a1960 Bell 204-B “Huey” operated by Northern Pioneer Helicopters crashed while landing at the Anderson Airport helipad.

The sole pilot and occupant of the helicopter, identified as 56-year-old Douglass Ritchie of Wasilla died in the crash. He was helping in firefighting efforts with the Clear Fire. The crash happened outside Anderson, Alaska.

The Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DOF), along with the Alaska State Troopers and the National Safety Board are investigation the crash.

No foul play is suspected. A 3-manteam of investigators headed to Clear today, Monday, June 27.
