(WLOS) In the late spring through early summer, West Henderson quarterback Lukas Kachilo began receiving invitations to camps at D-I schools; Wake Forest, Louisville, and Western Carolina were among the suitors.
However, he found what he was looking for just down the highway.
Last week the senior signal caller verbally committed to Gardner-Webb of the Big South Conference.
"I just knew it as soon as I went to the field and talked to the head coach about it and I was just ready to commit," said Kachilo. "[An] hour away, my family can go to the game, coaches, whoever wants to go. It feels good to be close to home."
As a junior Kachilo completed 60.5% of his passes for 2,129 yards and 21 touchdowns, adding another pair of scores on the ground.
Kachilo will join fellow WNC product Clayton Frady (Smoky Mountain) and Cade Hamilton (East Rutherford) on the Runnin' Bulldogs roster.
