Children found in road, 2 Knox County adults arrested

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – Deputies in Knox County arrested two adults after their children were found stranded in the middle of Kentucky highway 223 over the weekend.

Katelyn Hamilton, 23, and 29-year-old Brandon Cottingham were charged with 2 counts each of first-degree wanton endnagerment after a motorist found their 2-year-old child laying in the road wearing nothing but a diaper and their 4-year-old running toward the younger child.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office said the children were taken by a motorist to a nearby residence and reported to Knox dispatch.

Child protective services briefly took custody of the kids before releasing them to a family member. Hamilton and Cottingham were held in the Knox County Detention Center.
