Breaking and entering: Mayfield Road

Officers responded to the Gates Mills Place apartments around 7 p.m. June 20 regarding a report of two unknown male suspects who had broken into a mailroom and were stealing a shopping cart full of packages.

The suspects’ vehicle was located, but fled from officers, eventually entering Interstate 271.

It was discovered that the suspects had entered the mailroom by shattering a glass panel on the door. The incident is under investigation.

Theft: Rosebury Court

An 82-year-old resident reported June 16 that a bracelet and ring, valued at $2,000, were missing from her home.

Her friend also filed a similar report in Highland Heights. It was learned that both women use the same cleaning company.

Two women from the cleaning company have been questioned and the incident remains under investigation.

Assault: Maplewood Road

A woman reported June 17 that her ex-boyfriend had just assaulted her in the parking lot of the Golden Gate Gardens.

The man left prior to officers’ arrival and the woman chose not to pursue the matter criminally. She was advised how to obtain a protection order.

Weapons offense: SOM Center Road

Officers conducted a consent search of an occupied vehicle in the parking lot of the Coppertree apartments June 18 after smelling burnt marijuana. A loaded gun and marijuana were located.

The passenger, a 19-year-old Garfield Heights man, claimed ownership of the gun. He was charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possessing a defaced firearm and possession of a controlled substance.

The driver, a 19-year-old Beachwood man, was cited for possession of marijuana.

Violation of protection order: Marsol Road

A woman reported June 16 that her boyfriend had stolen her cell phone after an argument and fled on foot.

Officers located the Cleveland man, 29, in an apartment hallway and in possession of the woman’s phone, marijuana and a digital scale. He was subsequently charged with violation of a protection order and possession of drugs.

Stolen vehicle: Marsol Road

A woman reported June 18 that her vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of the Drake apartments. She said it was locked, but she had lost the key fob for it somewhere in the building that day.

Harassment: Mallard Drive

A man reported June 20 that his ex-wife had driven to Mayland Towers with three other people to fight his new wife.

The suspects were located, and it was learned that they had entered a building after deceiving a cleaning lady with a story about a sick grandmother.

The 22-year-old ex-wife was subsequently charged with aggravated trespassing and telecommunications harassment.

After she was released from jail, it was found that she was still sending threatening message to the couple through Facebook by using accounts belonging to family members.

Theft: Golden Gate Plaza

A customer walked out on her bill at the Crafty Crab June 18 after two payment methods were declined and she argued with a manager.

The suspect was identified through the registration of her vehicle and officers contacted the 40-year-old Cleveland resident. She said she was unable to return to make payment.

A theft warrant was subsequently issued for her arrest.

Disturbance: SOM Center Road

Officers responded to the Coppertree apartments around 9 p.m. June 17 for a report of about 10 people yelling at one another at a cookout.

As police arrived, several people were already leaving the area. The rest were sent on their way after officers confirmed that all was OK.

Theft: Mayfield Road

Officers responded to Circle K around 7:30 a.m. June 19 for a report of a man who had entered the store screaming, took a beer and left the business. They located the man in the area and issued him a trespass warning.

Suspicion: Mayfield Road

A member from a hockey team was reported to have urinated in a driveway near the city park June 18. Officers located a team and advised them all to use a park restroom to relieve themselves.
