The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said it booked 32-year-old Quentin Raynal Respers into the county jail without bail on murder charges. Respers is known to law enforcement and is on probation until 2023 in connection with the firearm charges he received in 2017.
The shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. on Friday at the 49er Travel Plaza along the 2800 block of El Centro Road, the sheriff's office said. A person called authorities saying a female had been shot inside the business and was lying on the floor.
Deputies found the female and performed life-saving measures before she was taken to the hospital. Authorities said she died several hours later.
It is not known what led up to the shooting, but the victim, identified by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office as 38-year-old Abrina Gabriella Abraham, was believed to have known Respers.
The sheriff's office on Friday said they believed the gunman involved in Abraham's death was an employee at the travel plaza, but it is not yet known if Respers was the suspect initially identified. There are no other suspects wanted in the shooting.
