Fantasy women's basketball: Alysha Clark among top waiver wire pickups

Alysha Clark has played terrific basketball of late. Melissa Tamez/Icon Sportswire

There are several names in this week's article that have been in this space previously, some as recently as last week. And that's not even including players like Aari McDonald, Marine Johannes and AD Durr that very easily could have been included as well.

There is some good talent that is unrostered in the majority of fantasy leagues, and these are the types of player acquisitions that can mean the difference between a win and a loss in a given week. Staying active on the waiver wire can do a lot to make up for any draft disappointments or injuries that could otherwise be holding your teams back.

Also, you should keep an eye on roster moves in the WNBA, big and small, and how they can impact your own teams. The blockbuster move over the weekend was Tina Charles parting ways with the Mercury, with reports suggesting she will sign with the Storm.

This move opened up a lot of opportunity along the Mercury frontline, and potentially limits opportunity along the Storm frontline. Movement breads opportunity...or as Littlefinger would say, "Chaos is a ladder." Let's climb together.

Alysha Clark, Washington Mystics (45.0% rostered in ESPN leagues): Clark has been starting all season, but she's in the midst of a particularly strong stretch of play. She's recorded season-high rebound totals (eight) in two straight games, and in her last game she also set new season-highs with 20 points and 4 steals, in an upset victory over the first place Las Vegas Aces. Still rostered in less than half of the leagues, Clark is playing like a potential fantasy starter.

Moriah Jefferson, Minnesota Lynx (36.7%): Jefferson is in this space for the second straight week, because she's playing like a fantasy star but she's only rostered in just over a third of leagues. In her last four games, Jefferson has scored in double-figures each game and averaged 16.8 PPG, 6.3 APG, 2.8 RPG and 2.3 3PG in 29.8 MPG.

Katie Lou Samuelson, Los Angeles Sparks (23.6%): Samuelson has started 10 straight games, and scored in double figures in eight of those 10 games. During that stretch, she's averaged 12.8 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 2.2 3PG, 2.1 APG and 1.0 SPG in 30.0 MPG.

Sophie Cunningham, Phoenix Mercury (7.4%): Cunningham may be the Mercury player that gains the most opportunity with the departure of Charles. She started on Sunday, her third start of the season, and scored 14 points with 6 rebounds, 2 3-pointers and 1 assist in 27 minutes. In her two starts where she's played at least 27 minutes, she's scored at least 13 points with at least 5 rebounds in both contests.

Rebekah Gardner, Chicago Sky (6.2%): Gardner has gotten more run in the last two games, including a start, as Kahleah Copper has dealt with back issues. In Gardner's last two games, she's averaged 11.0 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 2.0 SPG, 1.0 APG and 0.5 BPG in 26.5 MPG. Copper was probable to start on Sunday before being a surprise scratch. This incidates that the injury wasn't considered serious, but that it was enough to warrant more attention.
