HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — In honor of its 50th anniversary, a motorcycle dealership in the Circle City is being honored by Houston County leaders.
In July of 1972, the Holland family, who owns Harley-Davidson of Dothan, officially opened the dealership. According to Mark Culver, the Houston County Chairman, during the five decades of serving the Wiregrass, the Hollands have gone above and beyond for the community.
“I appreciate Houston County and all they do,” owner of Harley-Davidson of Dothan, Dutch Holland said. “Most especially the sheriff’s department, they are fantastic.”
He adds, that they have helped with many local charities and have donated many Harley’s to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, which deputies use during escort processions.
The proclamation was read during Monday’s Houston County Commission Meeting, where Culver officially declared the month of July as Harley-Davidson of Dothan month in all of Houston County.
“They are very active in helping charitable organizations in the community,” a friend of the Hollands, J.R. Cambron said. “They have been very active in that. They built a strong business by having faith in God and faith in themselves.”
On top of being in business for 50 years, county officials tell WDHN that the Hollands were also honored for being a beacon of the community, building his Harley Davidson businesses from the ground up into what it has become.
