Kyrie to Stay With Nets; Is Suns' Dream of Durant Dead?

Kyrie Irving appears to be staying in Brooklyn, making the likelihood of Kevin Durant joining the Suns unlikely.

Perhaps it was dead before it even started.

Rumors swirled around the Phoenix Suns and the possibility of trading for superstar Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant in recent weeks thanks to alleged disputes between point guard Kyrie Irving and the organization.

Had Irving departed, Durant was highly favored to request a trade and end his time with the Nets.

The Suns potentially grabbing Durant only came with the assumption that Irving, a player Durant wanted to play with before joining the Nets, would be traded.

After days of reports suggesting a departure was imminent, Irving flipped the script on the world of basketball after opting into his $37 million option with the Nets, effectively remaining with the team and putting an end to all further speculation.

Irving himself had a few words after the decision.

Although nothing is for certain, this move certainly swings the pendulum in favor for Durant staying and not joining Phoenix.

Durant has reportedly not spoken with the Nets in a few weeks over the situation with Irving, although that may change very quickly.

Kyrie Irving has opted into his player option with the Nets, and as a result, the Phoenix Suns may have just lost Kevin Durant before they had a chance to truly get him.
