Longtime NOLA business closing down due to concerns over crime increase

A longtime staple of the French Quarter is shuttering due to concerns over the city's continued increase in crime.

Kako Gallery, located at 733 Royal Street in New Orleans, made the announcement via a post on its Instagram page.

"After many years of investment and great memories, we have decided to permanently close our 733 Royal Street location due to countless encounters that defines and reflects the city’s unsafeness," reads the post.

The gallery's bio touts 17 years in business, but it appears that business relationship, at least with the Big Easy, has reached its end, with its New Orleans branch closing for good on August 27.

Two different murders have occurred in the gallery's vicinity in recent weeks. On May 22, a man was shot at the corner of Royal and St. Louis, just three blocks from the gallery. Another man was shot on Bourbon Street just two days prior to the company's post about closing its doors.

The post encourages its customers to continue to visit its other location in Denham Springs, La.
