GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Public Library and the Humanities Nebraska Music Program partnered to bring musician Oscar Rios Pohirieth to the library on Monday morning.

Pohirieth performed several songs on multiple instruments, showcasing South American culture to those in attendance.

“What I’ve learned is through the communication and language of music, through the instruments and sounds, it’s a peaceful way to relate what’s really in my heart,” said Pohirieth. “What’s really in my mind.”

Another exciting part of the event, was bringing that culture to people of central Nebraska.

“It give participants a chance to experience a different culture, maybe something they hadn’t seen before,” explained Laure Fentress, the Youth and Family Services Librarian. “Something from very far away right here in Nebraska.”

If you missed this event, the library says they’re hosting one every Monday until the end of July.
